Two months ago, the company named after Ferdinand Porsche celebrated a major milestone — 75 years since the first Porsche car was officially registered on June 8, 1948, even though Porsche itself was founded back in 1931. To mark this 75th anniversary, Porsche unveiled a special concept car showcasing the future direction of the brand: the electric hypercar Porsche Mission X.
Design Inspired by Porsche’s Legendary Hypercars
Porsche places the Mission X in the same league as the legendary Porsche 959, Porsche Carrera GT, and Porsche 918 Spyder — models that were once the most advanced, powerful, and expensive in the lineup. At the same time, the designers drew inspiration from the Porsche 917 racing cars that dominated tracks in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Mission X even features a similar gullwing door design.
This project has actually been brewing at Porsche’s design center for years. Just take a look at the unrealized hypercar projects created between 2005 and 2019, and you’ll spot similar design elements.
Key Structural Features
Structurally, the Porsche Mission X checks every box expected of a modern hypercar:
- Carbon fiber monocoque chassis
- Center-lock wheels — 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear
- Active aerodynamics
- Adjustable suspension with separate compression and rebound settings
Dimensions and Cockpit Design
The coupe measures approximately:
- 4.5 meters long
- Around 2 meters wide
- Less than 1.2 meters tall
- 2.73-meter wheelbase
Unfortunately, these remain the only published specifications for now. The traction battery sits behind the seats, positioned as close to the center of the car as possible for optimal weight distribution. Inside the cockpit, drivers will find:
- Two digital displays
- A yoke-style steering wheel instead of a traditional round one
- Carbon fiber seats with six-point safety harnesses
- A mounting point in front of the passenger for a detachable navigational device that combines a mechanical chronometer with a digital display
Performance Claims: What If Mission X Reaches Production?
There are no other technical details about the hypercar yet, since it remains only a concept. However, Porsche has boldly stated that if the Mission X goes into production, it will deliver:
- A power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp/kg
- A 900-volt electrical system with fast charging — twice as powerful as the Taycan Turbo S
- Downforce on par with the track-focused Porsche 911 GT3 RS
- An output of around 1,700 horsepower
The boldest claim of all: Porsche says that if the Mission X enters serial production, it aims to become the fastest road car on the Nürburgring — a title currently held by the hybrid hypercar Mercedes-AMG One.
Is a Production Porsche Electric Hypercar Coming?
All these detailed performance targets suggest one thing: a production electric hypercar from Porsche may well be on its way. That said, the finalization will likely take a few more years before the Mission X — or a version of it — reaches the road.
