Suzuki XL7 Facelift Revealed: Updated Crossover Van Gets Fresh Look and New Tech

Suzuki has unveiled a facelifted version of its XL7 crossover van, with the Indonesian-market model leading the rollout ahead of other regional variants.

The refreshed 2026 Suzuki XL7, with Indonesia’s seven-seat variant leading the model’s second-generation facelift.

A Complicated Naming History

Fast forward to 2019, and Suzuki introduced an unrelated model in India called the XL6 — sharing a similar name but nothing else, with the “6” referring to its six-seat layout.

The same vehicle is also built in Indonesia, but with a seven-seat configuration — meaning its badge, XL7, exactly matches the old Grand Vitara’s name despite the two models having no technical connection.

Key naming facts:

  • Original Grand Vitara XL7: 1998–2009, seven-seat SUV
  • Indian Suzuki XL6 (2019): six-seat version, unrelated to the Grand Vitara
  • Indonesian Suzuki XL7: seven-seat version of the same platform as the XL6

This XL6/XL7 duo received its first update four years ago, and now it’s getting its second refresh — with Indonesia getting the new look first.

A side-by-side reminder of the XL7 badge’s tangled history, spanning three unrelated Suzuki models across three decades.

What’s Actually Under the Skin

Despite the XL7 name, this model has nothing to do with the old Grand Vitara. Instead, it’s based on the Suzuki Ertiga compact MPV.

Compared to the standard Ertiga, the XL7 stands out with:

  • A unique front fascia
  • A distinct rear bumper
  • Black plastic crossover-style body cladding
Under its crossover styling, the XL7 shares its underlying architecture with the Ertiga compact MPV.

Exterior Updates: What’s New for 2026

The latest facelift brings a more aggressive, SUV-inspired appearance. Updates include:

  • A more sculpted front bumper with a black crossbar
  • LED fog lights
  • A larger front grille with bold sections, available in chrome on select trims
  • New 16-inch wheel designs
The redesigned front end features a bolder bumper, chrome-accented grille options, and restyled 16-inch alloy wheels.

Interior and Tech Upgrades

The seven-seat cabin retains its overall layout but gets new trim materials and updated interior finishes.

Notable tech improvements include:

  • A 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system now standard across the lineup (up from the previous 8-inch unit)
  • Support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Top-spec trims add a 360-degree camera system and a built-in dash camera
Inside, the cabin retains its seven-seat layout while adopting a larger 9-inch touchscreen with smartphone connectivity.

Engine and Drivetrain: What Stays the Same

Mechanically, the updated Suzuki XL7 carries over its existing powertrain:

  • 1.5-liter naturally aspirated K15B engine producing 105 horsepower
  • Choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission
  • Front-wheel drive only
  • Higher trims feature a mild-hybrid system

Pricing and Availability

The updated Suzuki XL7 is currently available in Indonesia, priced between 274.3–329.7 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately $15,000–$18,000 USD).

Indonesian-built units are expected to be exported to other Southeast Asian markets in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Indian-market Suzuki XL6 has yet to receive this update — but it’s expected to follow Indonesia’s blueprint for its own refresh in the near future.

Priced from roughly $15,000 in Indonesia, the updated XL7 is set to expand into export markets across Southeast Asia.
