For over a year, Moscow has been without events featuring antique cars. Last Sunday that forced hiatus was finally broken. At precisely noon the oldtimer rally “Ingosstrakh Exclusive Classic Day” set off from the Metropol Hotel, organized in collaboration with the Classic Car Rally Club. Fifty rare cars covered more than seventy kilometers through Moscow’s streets and squares in just three hours.
A Spectacle, but a Real Rally
Despite its spectacle, this was a genuine rally — professional judging, a strict schedule, even special stages. The event was divided into four distinct categories, and each produced its winner.
The Winners
- Veteran: the oldest car in the field, the 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom, starting number 103, drivers V. Popov and K. Evtafiev
- Oldtimer: the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, starting number 31, crew A. Mazurkevich and P. Bogachev
- Youngtimer: the 1974 VAZ-2101 “Kopeyka”, starting number 1, driven by the Simony family, O. and A. Simony
- Sport: the 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE, starting number 21, another family crew, O. and B. Zharkov
